Closed Accounts

Q: I just closed an account, how long does that stay on my report?
A: If the account has delinquencies, those marks stay on your credit reports for seven years from the date they were reported. Positive closed accounts (with no delinquencies or late payments) can remain on your credit report for longer than seven years.

Q: Can you permanently delete delinquencies of closed accounts?
A: A paid collection, once deleted, is permanent. The reporting collection agency has stopped sending information regarding the account to the bureaus and deletion will be permanent.
